Hyaluronic Fillers

Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). The aging process, time, gravity and environmental factors will reduce the amount of HA in the skin. The lack of HA causes the skin to lose its structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds such as apparent smile lines in the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, chin lines and glabbelar creases.

Juvederm XC, Restylane, and Perlane are injectable fillers that are formulated with HA to replenish what the skin has lost. These HA fillers add volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm XC differs from Restylane in its smooth consistency due to a manufacturing process called Hylacross technology. The molecules are cross-linked to achieve a smooth-gel property and robust gel structure to maintain longevity. Perlane differs from Restylane primarily in the size of the particles and the depth of the required injection. Perlane, used for deeper wrinkles, has larger particles that are injected deeper into the skin than Restylane. Perlane is not approved for use in lip enhancement, but Restylane can be used for this purpose in patients 21 years of age and older. All three HA fillers are formulated with lidocaine to provide patients with a more comfortable experience during and after the treatment.
